To say I’ve had a varied work life so far is a small understatement.
In my opinion, it’s been fulfilling and diverse which as allowed me to develop so many skills and qualifications over the years, to the point where I have been able to really focus on where I excel, which is creativity, organisation & logical thinking, working positively with people from a range of backgrounds and lifestyles, excellent communication skills, seeing situations from alternative angles and in-depth analysis of data.
Without going into the minutiae of my background, I trained and worked within the criminal justice system after gaining my LL.B Law degree as I wanted to build upon the learning and knowledge I’d acquired over my time at university. I furthered developed myself professionally by undertaking a 2 year degree programme & Level 4 NVQ alongside working full time, qualifying as a Probation Officer.
This area of work was full of experiences in how to deal with large groups of people, most of whom were, I’ll be honest, less than thrilled to be on a probation programme or having to see an Officer on a regular basis throughout their probation order.
But to me, these experiences were invaluable in developing my skills in dealing with people in stressful situations, listening and analysing large amounts of information all at the same time, managing my own emotions in risky situations, and research into all aspects of each individuals life to come to an informed and fair assessment of their needs, risky thought patterns and positive elements in their surroundings.
At times it was full-on, stressful, ‘character-building,’ but it was also motivating, interesting, fulfilling and challenging but in a positive way.
On top of working within the criminal justice system, I thought to myself ‘hey, I’m not working hard enough…. I’ll give running my own business at the same time!’
And before I knew it, I had delved head first into events management, project management, financial forecasting and planning, adherence to HMRC legislation, web site development and SEO analysis, content creation, social media creation and engagement, running a retail site as well as trade marketing and sales, website sales, design and marketing…. The list goes on. And on.
And on, as I also offered consultancy services to those who wanted a helping hand or listening ear whilst developing their own business. I was there with advice, help and a plan for how to deal with the various pitfalls and wobbly moments at the times when things don’t seem to go to plan.
I loved it. All of it. It was joyful to be able to build something from scratch and see it develop over the years. I worked with some of the most creative, engaging and selfless people who also ran their own business but who were happy to share a hand, or a thought or 2 when asked. And vice versa.
Following a change in my personal life, I decided that having a set working routine was what I needed after years of sharing my time between the probation service and developing my own business, and I moved to Royal Mail after closing my business down.
Was I sad about moving away from running my own business? I was in a way, but I was also excited to throw myself into the next step in life and use my skills and qualities in a different way. And whilst the work is extremely different to what I’ve done in my working life so far, it’s also allowed me to develop and learn new skills in the process. It had never occurred to me how complicated the mail system was until working there! It’s been an eye opener for sure.
Which leads me to Korosea Limited, a venture started between myself and my partner, Paul. Korosea was ‘born’ after we talked about we were passionate about in life, and realised that our work life experiences and combined skills knitted together rather nicely.
We concluded that by bringing together our knowledge, experiences and skills, we could offer a wealth of experience to others in order to help them build their businesses and/ or fulfill elements of their contracts that require specific expertise in consultancy work.
Suffice to say I’m very excited to see where Korosea takes us over the years. And I’m thrilled to be able to zone into the areas that I know, from a personal and professional viewpoint.
Hopefully this small write up has given you a better understanding of who I am and what we can offer as a family business.
